2025 Rapid Intervention Team
Rapid Intervention Team (RIT): A designated crew that will serve as a standby rescue team for personnel and be available for the immediate search and rescue of any missing, trapped, injured, or unaccounted-for firefighter (s). This team shall be fully equipped with the appropriate personal protective clothing, protective equipment, SCBA, specialized rescue equipment and training needed based on the specifics of the operation that is underway. This includes the emergency Breathing Support System.
The Selden Fire Department RIT Team was established in 1998 and consists of the below Active members. The activated team consists of a minimum of five (5) specifically trained individuals with a maximum of eight (8) skilled firefighters. The Team is activated when a neighboring department has a working structure fire. The crew stands at a ready after completing a 360 degree site review. If a firefighter, working the call, becomes lost or injured and can not make their way out, the R.I.T sole job is to locate and rescue this lost or injured firefighter. Selden created their team after seeing a similar team at a fire at the Stony Brook Physics building on August 3, 1998. The team has been operation since that date.
